An Exploration on the Expansion Plan for Corporate Philanthropy

Abstract

This study attempts to explore factors that influence the expansion of corporate philanthropy by Korean companies. Using the 2011 Beautiful Foundation¡®s Giving Korea data on Korea companies¡¯ philanthropy, this study examines effects of general characteristics of companies, institutionalization variables of corporate philanthropy, and motive, awareness and distribution fields of corporate philanthropy on expansion plan of corporate philanthropy. The results by logistic regression analysis are as followed. The number of employees among the general characteristics of companies is statistically significant for expansion plan of corporate philanthropy in positive direction. Second, institutionalization variables such as independent corporate philanthropy office & staff and corporate education program for corporate employees¡¯ volunteering are statistically significant for expansion plan of corporate philanthropy in positive direction. Finally, the motive of corporate philanthropy (strategic motive), awareness regarding reputation improvement, concentration for community in resource distribution are statistically significant for expansion plan of corporate philanthropy in positive direction. Finally, this study discusses the implications of these findings makes suggestions for future research.
